After landing at Marina Grande go up the quiet streets until you get to Via Roma, which leads to the Church of Our Lady of Piety. This takes you to Piazza dei Martiri, looking out over the sea and bearing a plaque from 1863 commemorating twelve inhabitants of Procida executed during the Neapolitan revolution of 1799. From the square wander down Via San Rocco, which has a breathtaking view over Corricella cove; on the other side of the square Via Castello leads to the prison and the prison department. After Via San Michele, you come to Terra Murata which, at 91 metres, is the highest point on the island. This is where you will find Saint Michael's Abbey. An excursion around the island is nine kilometres long: go down towards the ruins of Santa Margherita Vecchia to reach the sea at Chiaiolella cove. Cross the street to reach Punta Palombara and Saint Margaret's Church, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Phlegrean Fields and the islands. You can also get to the island of Vivara from Chiaiolella.
